Bicycles. Clothes. Lamps. Tools. Small Appliances. Knife Sharpening. (Almost) Anything is Fixable.
Oak Park Fix-It Cafe is a group of community members who gather once a month to hang out, help anyone with any needed repairs, and (sometimes) even learn a new skill or two!
Come join your neighbors as we share what we have to fix what we need. Or just come as you are, take a load off, have a cup o’ joe and a cookie, and maybe make some new friends. If you need to just relax with friends, we’re here for that. If you want to get your hands a little dirty, we can help there, too.
This is always FREE, and always for EVERYONE—no matter your housing status, language or background.
We often don’t have the time or money or ability to replace something when it breaks or wears out, but what can we do?
Chances are, you’ve got a new friend in the neighborhood who can help fix that bike wheel, sew up that winter jacket, rewire that lamp, or resharpen that garden tool.
Everyone is free to get help, give it, or both!
We’re all learners. We’re all givers. We’re all receivers. And, if we can’t fix it, we can at least share some coffee and cake and brainstorm a good next step with you.
You’re not alone. We’re a community.
Some ask us, “How did you come up with this idea?” Well, we didn’t…Cultures and communities the world over have operated like this forever—sharing, teaching, learning, and working together, with never a payment changing hands.
It’s simple: no fees, no memberships, no budget— just neighbors. Our Oak Park Fix-It Cafe is a family open to all. (& kids are welcome, too!)

As an all-volunteer outfit, we usually just make do with what we already have. We’re grateful for whatever you can provide!**
It is most feasible for us to receive donations during Fix-It Cafe hours, 11am-2pm every 2nd Sat/mo. If that time is not possible for you, please contact us here and we’ll try to arrange a drop-off.
**For heavier-duty items we will use month after month, please considerately donate items in good enough shape to endure (hopefully) a long life at the Cafe.
